Five teachers to stand trial for passive corruption

The five teachers of the Center of Excellence in Energy Engineering and Electronics of Chisinau, who were arrested a month ago on charges of passive corruption, will stand trial. The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office said the investigation was completed and the cases were sent to court, IPN reports.

According to the collected evidence, the teachers systematically asked and took money from students for giving them good grades in a number of disciplines. The teachers intentionally created impediments to the students who refused to pay for grades, in particular last-year students.

In a special operation performed under the control of prosecutors and anticorruption offices, sums of money were transmitted to the five teachers. Two of them were caught red handed.

The teachers admitted their guilt and face fines of 50,000 to 100,000 lei and ban on holding particular public posts or performing a particular activity for a period of up to five years.
