Flower market on G. Banulescu-Bodoni St could be shifted
The flower market located on G. Banulescu-Bodoni St might be moved to a new place. The Chisinau City Hall will examine the situation of this market and suggest keeping or shifting it, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Councilor Valerii Klimenko considers that the flower market damages the image of the park in Chisinau's historical center. “A new place for this market was to be identified long ago. I understand that it is convenient, but it is also convenient to park in the Great National Assembly Square. However, we do not do it” he said.
Another councilman, Oleg Onishchenko does not consider that the market should be moved. “The Chisinau administration can earn money from leasing out this land. The company that rents the plot pays 10 lei per square meter, but leases booths for hundreds and thousands of lei per square meter,” Onishchenko said. “We can found a municipal company that will lay out the market and lease out booths. With the collected money, we could repair roads and clean the city.”
Deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu said the Chisinau Council renewed the lease for a five-year period and cannot terminate the contract now. “The given company intends to renovate the market. If we cancel the decision to renew the lease, we could be sued,” Grozavu said, adding that many European capitals have flower markets in the central part of the city.
Councilor Mihai Severovan proposed returning to the issue after officials of the City Hall analyze the situation and propose a solution.
