Flowers laid at poet Grigore Vieru’s busts

Politicians, people of culture and young people rendered homage to poet Grigore Vieru at his bust situated in the central park of Chisinau in the morning of February 14. The Liberal-Democratic young people and a group of actors recited poems written by the bard, Info-Prim Neo reports. Arcadie Suceveanu, chairman of the Writers Union, said the commemoration actions will continue with a literary colloquium themed “Miracle of childhood”. It will involve such guests of honor as Spiridon Vangheli, and Horia Zilieru from Romania’s Iasi. “A condition for becoming classical writer is to be alive after death. Grigore Vieru classicized by his works and by his civic deeds. He became the great symbol of the renaissance of the Bessarabian Romanians and will remain like this in the history of literature and the conscience of our people,” said Arcadie Suceveanu. Attending the event, Prime Minister Vlad Filat said that Grigore Vieru wrote the best poems about the love for country, language and mother. “He was a man with a rare great heart and we should make effort so that all the children, and not only they, known his work,” he stated. Grigore Vieru was born on February 14, 1935 in Pererita village, former Hotin county. He departed this life on January 18, 2009. He suffered cardiac arrest 48 hours after he was seriously injured in a road accident.
