Foreign Ministry special commission to deal with case of 16 Moldovans arrested by Egyptian border police
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration set up a commission that will deal with the case involving four women and 12 men who were arrested by the Egyptian police on the border with Israel. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Iurie Vition, adviser with the Ministry's Mass Media and Public Relations Division, said Moldova's embassies will try to obtain more information from the Egyptian and Israeli authorities about the detained persons.
“The given persons were arrested when they illegally tried to cross the border with Israel. Allegedly, they were involved in a murder. We found out about this from the press. The information is now being verified” Iurie Vition said.
The press earlier reported that the Moldovans asked several Bedouins to help them get to Israel in exchange for US$1,000. Later, the Bedouins asked a double sum for their services and the two camps started to fight. The Moldovans managed to escape after killing the guard. According to another press report, 31-year-old smuggler Masood Salim was stabbed when he was trying to rape a woman from the group of Moldovan migrants.
