Former administration of Moldsilva embezzled 83m lei, Audit Office
The former administration of Moldsilva appropriated 83 million lei of public funds, the Audit Office said after verifying the State Agency's performance during 2008-2009. The forestry companies managed by the Agency embezzled 2.5 million lei, the deputy director of one of the Audit Office's auditing departments Angela Frunze told a news conference, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to Angela Frunze, the former administration of Moldsilva used 211,000 lei to provide support to the 20 employees of the Agency. Moldsilva also purchased two vehicles for about half a million lei and spent 400,000 lei on organizing an anniversary.
Losses of 5.3 million lei were sustained as a result of the inefficient management of the woodworking process. Wood to the value of about half a million lei decayed at a forestry company in Hancesti because certain technical norms were not observed.
A number of irregularities were identified in levying rent for the use of forests. A forestry company in Balti did not calculate and collect rent of 1.2 million lei. The materials were sent to the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime, which launched an inquiry, Angela Frunze said.
She stated that the Ministry of Finance, the Prosecutor General's Office and the Government were also informed so that they take the necessary steps.
In the period when the irregularities had been committed, Moldsilva was headed by Anatol Popusoi. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, the current director Gheorghe Vdovyi said he did not know about that illegalities and that he familiarized himself with the report of the Audit Office a day ago. Gheorghe Vdovyi was named head of Moldsilva Agency in November 2009.
