Former assistant of sanitary inspector convicted of passive corruption

The woman assistant of the sanitary inspector of the Balti Public Health Center was put on probation for a five-year period for passive corruption. She was also fined 20,000 lei and deprived of the right to hold public posts for a period of up to two years, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué of the Prosecutor General’s Office, last February the woman asked for and received 1,000 lei from the manager of a firm for making sure that the company’s activity will not be suspended in connection with the violations identified during a sanitary-epidemiological inspection. When she started to be investigated, the woman was dismissed from her post.

The trial was held in the absence of the woman as she, on the pretext of needing treatment, left the country.

The prosecutors consider the sentence passed by the Balti Court is too mild and intend to appeal it to a higher court.
