The former chief of the General Inspectorate of Police (IGP), Ion Bodrug, was detained this morning, November 6, at Chisinau International Airport. In 2017, Bodrug was wanted at international level, being a suspect in a fire weapons smuggling case.
"Today, at Chisinau International Airport, Mr. Bodrug was detained at around 08.55 am, as he was entering the country, based on a national no-fly-list," the border police officer, Olesea Dunasî, told IPN.
Update: Asked by IPN, the prosecutor of Chisinau municipality, Ștefan Șaptefrați, stated that Ion Bodrug was wanted at international level on arms smuggling charges. According to him, Ion Bodrug showed up at the criminal prosecution body, and now the procedural documents are being served to him. As soon as it is clear whether Bodrug will collaborate with the criminal prosecution body, the preventive measure will be decided on. Stefan Sevenfrati has said that he does not know what country Ion Bodrug came back from.
Ion Bodrug, a police colonel, was appointed chief of the General Inspectorate of Police in March 2013, before that he served as as deputy minister of internal affairs. Ion Bodrug announced his leaving the IGP in March 2015, mentioning that he was going to work in the private sector.
