Former mayor of Podgoreni village goes on hunger strike

“The wolf guarding the sheep.” This is how lawyer Anton Bejan described the legal case opened against the current mayor of Podgoreni village of Orhei district Constantin Mata, at the request of former mayor Alexandru Plamadeala. After two years of investigation, the case was sent to court without familiarizing the injured party with the materials of the case, while the complaints lodged with the Prosecutor General's Office were sent back to the district prosecutors who probed the case, Anton Bejan told a news conference held at Info-Prim Neo. In protest, Alexandru Plamadeala decided to go on hunger strike from tomorrow, March 23. In the summer of 2008, Alexandru Plamadeala was beaten by accomplices of Constantin Mata, said the lawyer. ”The mayor's brothers Ion and Vitalie Mata and a co-villager Vasile Latu tied his hands with a wire and beat him during about four hours inside the mayor's office,” said Anton Bejan, adding that they took thus revenge on Plamadeala, who often spoke openly about the illegalities and abuses committed by the mayor. “Though the police commissariat has investigated the case objectively, demanding that the suspects be charged, the Prosecutor's Office of Orhei district delayed the case, saying they were told to stop examining the cases during the election campaign,” said the lawyer. According to him, the order was made by then then Prosecutor General Valeriu Gurbulea. “We filed numerous complaints to senior prosecution bodies, but received answers to them from the Orhei Prosecutor's Office. It means that my complaints were examined by persons who committed abuses. I do not understand what kind of legislation we have,” said Alexandru Plamadeala. Only one person will be tried in the given case for causing minor bodily injuries. “How is it possible to ignore accusations over five Penal Code articles substantiated by medical examinations, photos of the hand injuries and blood stains on the torn shirt?” the lawyer asked, stressing he submitted complaints to the President, the Parliament, the Government and Minister of Justice Alexandru Tanase. “The case was sent to court without informing us about the results of the investigation. Thus, my client's right to justice was infringed. If the country's administration does not interfere, we will appeal to the ECHR,” said Anton Bejan. Alexandru Plamadeala said in this connection that if justice is not done to him, he will be forced to leave the country. “The abuses against me will make me leave the village or even the country,” he said. According to local councilor Mihai Mocan, the villagers and financial institutions working in Orhei submitted complaints against the present mayor, but he enjoys protection and is not brought to justice.
