The former chief of the Taraclia State Tax Inspectorate was found guilty of misuse of power and was put on probation. The prosecutors consider the sentence is too mild and intend to appeal it and demand a jail term, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, in December 2008 the Inspectorate’s head annulled a decision by which an economic entity was to have its assets sequestrated following the non-payment of taxes of over 4 million lei to the state. Thus, the entity’s bank accounts with over 9.5 million lei were unblocked, but the debt to the state wasn’t cleared.
By the decision of the Taraclia Court, the culprit was put on probation for a period of four years and was banned from holding administrative or organizational-economic posts for a period of up to five years. The culprit was also ordered to pay the damage of over 5.7 million lei caused to the state.
