Former vice commissioner of Edinet jailed for torture

The court sentenced the former vice commissioner of Edinet district to five years in prison for torturing an inferior of his who refused to buy and drink alcohol together with him, IPN has learned from the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The case happened in March 2010, when the culprit held the post of vice commissioner of Edinet district. He was charged with kicking and punching a police officer until the latter fainted. The vice commissioner took the keys of the policeman’s personal car and his gun. When the victim regained consciousness and tried to find out the reasons for the aggression, the vice commissioner started again to hit him and asked €2,000 from him for retuning his car and gun.

According to the medical-legal examination report, the victim sustained head, face and ear bruises, a concussion, hemorrhage and other injuries. The former vice commissioner was sentenced to five years behind bars and was banned from holding posts at the Ministry of the Interior for a three-year period. He was also obliged to pay 40,000 lei damages to the victim. The court decision can be appealed to a higher court.
