The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office indicted the four border police officers and the passenger and parcel carrier that were arrested last week on active corruption, passive corruption and influence peddling charges, IPN reports.
At the request of prosecutors, one of the border police officers was remanded in custody for a month, while the other three officers and the carriers were placed under house arrest for a month.
According to prosecutors, the employees of the Border Police are suspected of asking and receiving sums varying between €50 and €700 from illegal carriers of passengers and parcels starting this spring. In exchange for the money, the border police officers favored the border crossing of motor vehicles transporting passengers and parcels without performing the required checks and without placing them in quarantine when entering the Republic of Moldova.
