A number of searches were conducted on Thursday morning at the Leuseni Customs Post and at the homes of employees of the Customs Service in a criminal case started on acts of corruption. Four customs officers were detained by officers of the National Anticorruption Center. The Prosecutor General’s Office said that the suspects allegedly asked for and accepted various amounts of money from parcel and passenger carriers operating international flights, IPN reports.
The unlawful remuneration was allegedly claimed in order to facilitate customs procedures or to fully avoid them. The eight searches conducted this morning targeted the service offices, cars and homes of the suspects. There were seized money whose origin is to be established, information carriers and other evidence relevant to the case.
The investigations into the case continue under the procedural leadership of prosecutors of the Balti Prosecutor’s Office.
