Four men to stand trial for smuggling textiles

Four men are accused of smuggling textiles and casing damage of over 450,000 lei to the state budget, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Prosecutor General’s Office, one of the offenders registered a commercial organization in the Transition region. Afterward, he sent Chinese textiles to the value of over 1.5 million lei to the address of his firm from the Odessa port.

The merchandize reached the destination in June 2012. In order to take the goods into Moldova, in collusion with employees of a brokerage company, they submitted false customs statements, specifying that the recipient is another company based in Tiraspol, which processes textiles and which benefits from concessions on the payment of customs duties.

By the same scheme, in August 2012 the culprits tried to transport another consignment of textiles to the value of 718,000 lei, but the merchandise was sent back to Ukraine by the customs body.

The criminal case was sent to the Ciocana district court. One of the culprits was put on the wanted list.
