Franzeluta case 'not political'

The case of the publicly-owned company Franzeluta is not a political issue, but an economic one, stated Food Industry Minister Vasile Bumacov at a talk show on Publika TV, adding that he would use all legal instruments to see the company's director Eugen Baleca dismissed shortly, Info-Prim Neo reports. “I greatly regret that so much political coloring was attached to this scandal, because there is no politics involved at all, it is purely an economic issue that the state has to solve. A company is being driven to bankruptcy. I though that after this scandal any political leader should be interested to see Eugen Baleca at least suspended, so that we can examine this case thoroughly, to see what is going on at this factory which is so important for the country. We're talking about bread here”, said Vasile Bumacov. He said that the court decision to reinstate Baleca to office was suspect, as the CCCEC inspection papers clearly showed that he had committed abuses. Moreover, Vasile Bumacov thinks that Eugen Baleca is profiting from this court order to cover all traces of his alleged abuses. “We're talking about 24 million lei in the CCCEC papers and 15 million lei in losses, plus the intention to take out loans of teens of millions of lei. And we don't really know, if we'll ever be able to find out, where this money went. When an amount of 24 million lei is indicated in an official document and a sacked director is reinstated to office in just a few hours, isn't this a suspect situation? In this period of time afforded to him, he wants to destroy all the documentation”. Further, Vasile Bumacov said that on July 15 the company's Board would discuss again Baleca's dismissal and would propose a replacement. “If he is reinstated again, we will appeal. A new manager is going to be selected by contest”. Eugen Baleca was dismissed by the Franzeluta Board on June 20, after an inspection by the CCCEC revealed that he had caused damage of 24 million lei to the company. Baleca, however, claimed that political interests were involved and that certain governmental parties we seeking to take control over the company. The state holds a 52.5% stock in Franzeluta, 22% are distributed among the company's workers, and other 3.9% belong to Chisinau municipality. The scandal at Franzeluta was amplified by a bomb hoax targeting the company's headquarters perpetrated on Monday evening by an unidentified man. The police are investigating the case.
