Freestyle wrestler Andrei Prepelita wins European bronze
Moldova's freestyle wrestler Andrei Preprelita won the bronze medal in the 60kg category on the second day of the European Championships taking place in Baku, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Moldovan athlete made his way to the winners' podium after defeating Andrei Vasiliev of Latvia and Haji Aliev of Azerbaijan. In the semifinals however Andrei lost to Russia's Opan Sat, who won the gold medal afterwards. In the dispute for the third place, the Moldovan athlete defeated Jukka Hyytiainen of Finland.
Another representative of Moldova, Nicolae Ceban, was one step short of reaching the winners' podium in the 96kg category. In the decisive fixture, he lost to Serhat Balci of Turkey and placed 5th.
These results placed the Moldovan men's freestyle wrestling team on the 8th spot in the overall rankings.
Natalia Budu, in the women's event, and the Moldovan Greco-Roman wrestling team are to enter the competition over the next few days.
