Friedrich Mayer freed by Chisinau Court of Appeal

The Chisinau Court of Appeals Monday set free Friedrich Mayer, who is internationally wanted for swindle and was arrested by officers of the Border Guard Service at the Chisinau International Airport. The court decided to discharge him, with only one judge being against, prosecutor Dorin Compan has told Info-Prim Neo. The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office will continue to investigate the case. Friedrich Mayer was held at the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime for nine days. He entered Moldova with a U.S. passport issued one month ago. It is not yet known if he renounced the German nationality or illegally obtained the U.S. passport. Friedrich Mayer’s lawyer Ana Ursachi told earlier the reporters that her client came to Moldova to visit his girlfriend and he has no connection with the wanted German.
