Fryderyk Chopin immortalized in postage stamp

Polish pianist and composer Fryderyk Chopin was immortalized in a new series of postage stamps on the 200th anniversary of his birth. The stamp was put into circulation in 50,000 copies by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology and Moldova's Post Office on March 1, Info-Prim Neo reports. UNESCO declared 2010 the Year of Chopin. Vladimir Ceban, the director of Moldova's Post Office, said the whole world will render homage to the great composer this year. “Chopin is pronounced the same in all the languages. His music conquered the world by its beauty, originality and naturalness. We hope the stamp will be popular with the philatelists in Moldova and abroad,” Ceban said. Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology Mihaela Iacob said the launch of the postage stamp “Fryderyk Chopin” represents a special event for Moldova, which sends messages about its cultural and spiritual values through the selected images. The stamp was issued at the suggestion of the Polish Union in Moldova. The Union's chairman Vasile Kazimirovici said the postage stamp occupies a respectable place among other stamps and is a visiting card in many countries. The postage stamp “Fryderyk Chopin” is the 722nd stamp issued in Moldova. It has a face value of 5.50 lei.
