The Superior Council of Prosecutors decided to convene the General Assembly of Prosecutors on November 17 and constituted an election organization commission that will have five members, IPN has learned from the Prosecutor General’s Office.
The Superior Council of Prosecutors needs to be convoked given that the terms of six of the 12 members of this self-managed body, including of its chairman Mircea Rosioru, expire on December 19, 2017.
For the first time, the Superior Council of Prosecutors approved the Council’s draft budget for the next year. This was formulated in accordance with the new law on the prosecution service that took effect on August 1, 2016. This stipulates that the Superior Council of Prosecutors is an independent self-managing body of prosecutors, with the status of legal entity and with a budget separate from the Prosecutor’s Office. It is financed within the limits of the budget allocations approved through the annual budget law so as to guarantee its independence.
Given the necessity of launching the activity of the Superior Council of Prosecutors, the structure and personnel costs were agreed at 7.2 million lei. The draft budget will be submitted to the Ministry of Finance for approval.
