General Police Inspectorate signs agreement to promote personal data protection

The General Police Inspectorate signed a cooperation agreement with the Association for the Protection of Private Life in a move to promote the protection of personal data and the right to respect for private life. The cooperation between the two entities will materialize through mutual exchanges of experience, documents that are not classified, statistical data, analytical and conceptual materials, regulations and documents related to their areas of activity, IPN reports.

In the signing ceremony, General Police Inspectorate chief Alexandru Pînzari said the police is an operator that processes personal data and incidents occur sometimes in the process. In order to avoid mistakes, it was decided to initiate this partnership.

“By concerted effort, we aim to increase the personal data protection level and to this way improve the quality of public services provided for the people. We will ensure a mutual exchange of experience and training programs in the field and will cooperate to raise police offices’ awareness of the personal data protection principles,” stated Alexandru Pînzari.

President of the Association for the Protection of Private Life Sergiu Bozianu said the Ministry of the Interior and the General Police Inspectorate are among the largest personal data operators. “In other words, there is a person responsible for the observance of the personal data protection principles in each institution. Moreover, there are two specialized subdivisions in charge of the protection of personal data. We must admit that we have a lot of work to do to prevent risks,” stated Sergiu Bozianu.
