Four students from the German delegation of participants to the International Summer School “National Minorities in Eastern Europe”, with a focus on learning Romanian, were welcomed in Chisinau’s suburban town of Cruzești.
The young people were informed about the town’s development plans and got insights into how the decision-making process takes place there and how the town council works. The students visited the Cruzești Educational Complex and the Town Hall.
The students also attended the festivities marking the beginning of the new school year and went to see the monument to the victims of the Stalinist deportations, mayor Violeta Crudu of Cruzești told IPN.
The students are in Moldova for three weeks to learn Romanian and get to know life here. In the first half of the day, they learn Romanian: some already have some knowledge of Romanian, while others are beginners. After the lessons, they have meetings at various institutions, with deputies, political analysts, during which they talk about the realities of Moldova
The young people are students of history, political science or pedagogy and they are writing their theses about the ex-Soviet space, including the Stalinist period.
This year the delegation includes seven students from Germany. The summer school runs from August 25 to September 13 and is organized by the State University of Moldova in cooperation with Moldova-Institut Leipzig.
