Gheorghe Cavcaliuc, who was invited by the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases for being questioned on November 5 as an accused in the criminal cases concerning the fabrication of cases against Gheorghe Petic and Ruslan Verbițchi, said that he cannot show up for questioning as he cannot abandon his professional activity in the UK and also for other well-founded reasons about which his lawyer informed PCCOCS by an application, IPN reports.
The leader of the Party “Building Europe at Home” (PACE) said that his residence in the UK was indicated in the application filed to the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases.
Also, “for the truth to come out and for the prosecutors and society to know the truth”, he asked for a commission rogatory in the UK where he can make statements. “As I do not trust the justice system in the Republic of Moldova, I will do this readily before the local law enforcement agencies, only before an impartial and independent prosecutor of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland,” stated Gheorghe Cavcaliuc.
Contacted by IPN for a comment, spokesman for PCCOCS Emil Gaitur said the application was received and was registered for being examined.
Gheorghe Cavcaliuc was invited by PCCOCS to be questioned about the cases that were fabricated by the General Police Inspectorate in 2018, when Gheorghe Cavcaliuc served as deputy head of the Inspectorate. Gheorghe Petic was framed for rape, while Ruslan Verbitski for illegal conveyance of Kalashnikov cartridges to Ukraine. Cavcaliuc left Moldova after the snap parliamentary elections of this July. He repeatedly informed that he is in London on business.
