A girl aged four was rushed to the hospital with burns after she scalded herself with the soup that was to be served to children at kindergarten. The incident happened in Floresti town. The parents filed a complaint to the police, but then decided to withdraw it.
The girl’s father, who initially agreed to talk to IPN’s reporter, asked afterward not to be quoted, arguing this is an accident that can occur at home as well and he does not want somebody to be punished. The man said he had to take his daughter to the hospital himself as the kindergarten’s employees didn’t call an ambulance.
Contacted by IPN, Valeriu Nichiforciuc, head of the Traumatology Section of the Floresti District Hospital, said that the girl was admitted to the Intensive Care Section on July 7. Shortly afterward, she was transferred to the Traumatology Section. She was diagnosed with first-degree burns on 4-5% of the body, mainly on the right side of the thorax. The girl experienced a psychological trauma, but the burns are not very serious.
Representatives of the kindergarten’s administration have told IPN that the educator dropped the plate with soup after she was accidentally hit by the child on her hands. The administrators admitted that they made a mistake by not calling an ambulance immediately and that the soup put in plates turned out to be too hot.
Specialists in child rights protection warn that hot liquids can kill a child. Parents should never leave containers with hot water or other hot liquids within the child’s reach. The bowls with hot food and the child bathtubs with hot water must be placed far from children.
