“Golden Wedding” to be premiered at National Theater

The National Theater “Mihai Eminescu” puts on the play “Golden Wedding” written by Vladimir Besleaga. According to stage manager Emil Gaju, the play is intended for spectators of all ages because it conveys hope and morals, IPN reports.

“It is a play about destiny, love, happiness and death. It teaches that one can live the life with dignity, nicely and brightly. By this play we aim to share a dose of courage, hope and light to the people,” said Emil Gaj, adding that it has many substrata and makes people of all ages and social categories to think.

Actor Nicolae Darie, who plays the part of Mister Aurel - an intellectual elderly man who has to dig gardens in order to earn his leaving – said that this character represents a large part of the country’s population as many elderly persons who worked as doctors and teachers and are now retired work hard in order to earn some money.

“I started to like this role as it is close to my soul. The play is about a family of intellectuals. He is a former doctor, while she is a former philologist. After retirement she began to sell flowers, while he to dig gardens. This is a reality in Moldova. It is our problem and our pain. However, love is above sadness in these people’s lives,” said the actor.

Actress Diana Decuseara said that the play is a return to the past as it contains elements of the 1980s. “The idea of the play is that we must live our lives so as to die contented as death can represent conciliation in this world,” she stated.

Work on the play has lasted for two months. The main roles are played by Nicolae Darie and Dina Cocea. The premier will take place on May 21 and 22.
