The Government promises to repair or build a total of 2,600 kilometers of roads this year under the second phase of the Good Roads Program, with a budget of 2.7 billion lei approved today.
“Last year we managed 1,600 kilometers. This year we will repair or even build 2,600 kilometers of roads. The money for this project is provided for in both the Road Fund and the State Budget”, stated Prime Minister Pavel Filip.
This year’s State Budget earmarks 1.7 billion for road repairs, and the money will be used according to local authorities’ proposals. The additional 1 billion lei will be taken from the Road Fund to mainly cover national road projects. Over half of the latter amount will be used for maintaining national roads, 326 million lei will go for road repairs and construction of road infrastructure, and 20 million lei for extending national roads.
The 2018 Good Roads Program enabled the rehabilitation of roads in 1,200 localities. Total expenses amounted to 1.9 billion lei.
