The Government approved, on Monday, the Strategy for the consolidation of the National Anticorruption Center (CNA) – the name that the Center for Combating Economic Crimes and Corruption (CCECC) will adopt starting current October, reports Info-Prim Neo. CCECC head Viorel Chetraru mentioned that the main aspects of institution’s consolidation rely on the institution’s independence from unnecessary pressure and influence, the increase of corruption combat capacity on all levels, including the capacity for criminal prosecution in cases of corruption and the fortification of monitoring of the CNA by the civil society. The CCECC reform will develop in two stages. The first stage will span between July and December 2012. In this period, the CNA management panel will be appointed, along with the structure and status of personnel; the CNA budget and premises for the criminal pursuit of corruption cases will be elaborated as well. The second stage will last up to 9 months, until October 2013, a period when measures for the consolidation of the institution, training of staff, and improvement of CNA’s communication with the masses. Selection of the staff will happen under the strictest of procedures, which imply polygraph and psychological tests. Consolidation measures for the new institution have been discussed at 30 round-table discussions and debates, with the participation of specialists and the civil society. The cases that do not strictly deal with corruption will be forwarded to the MIA, or another competent structure, until October 1. The Parliament’s Legal Commission will announce the contest for the CNA leader. When asked if he will candidate for the post, Viorel Chetraru said it was too early for such inquiries. In regards to the staff of CNA, and their salary, Viorel Chetraru added that there will be few, but good, employees, with salaries of 1000 euro minimum.
