The caretaker Government has allocated 600,000 lei from the state reserve fund for New Year's Eve festivities. Half of the sum will go to cover performers' fees and stage decorations.

About 250 singers, musicians and dancers will perform in the New Year's Eve show to be held in the Great Assembly Square. The event will culminate with fireworks.

Earlier the Government declared Friday/January 2 a day off, to be compensated for on Saturday/January 17. This means public employees will have a four-day vacation around the New Year, from January 1 to 4.
