The Cabinet approved a bill to support and promote mediation. The draft law defines the conditions of entering the profession and envisions the creation of a body of qualified mediators. It also delimits the powers of the Ministry of Justice and of the Mediation Council in the field, IPN reports.
Under the bill, the Mediation Council will suggest formulating policies and improving the normative framework, while the Ministry of Justice will work out, coordinate and monitor the implementation of the policy documents. The conflicting sides that will choose mediation will benefit from concessions, such as exemption from paying the state tax and making of payments in installments, and from the services of a mediator paid by the state.
The promotion and development of mediation as an alternative method for resolving disputes represents one of the objectives of the justice sector reform strategy for 2011-2016.
