Government favors rise in prices of drugs, Fiodor Ghelici

The prices of drugs have increased after the Government last week decided to remove the medications from the list of socially important goods the profit margin on which is regulated, businessman Fiodor Ghelici, the head of the NGO “Moldova Mea”, said in a news conference on November 2, Info-Prim Neo reports. Fiodor Ghelici said a drug in different drugstores can be sold at a price difference of about 100 lei. Despite the promises that the drugs will become cheaper made by the authorities, their prices have increased since May. The businessman stated that Prime Minister Vlad Filat should have had a serious motivation to strike the drugs off the list of socially important goods. Either a large sum of money was involved, or the Premier was mislead by certain forces, Ghelici said, adding such decisions taken during the election campaign are somehow irrational for a party leader and for a Prime Minister. The Government argued the drugs were removed from the list of socially important goods because a new regulation mechanism was instituted on the market, namely the Register of Producer’s Drug Prices. The final price will be calculated according to the average prices of the drug in five EU countries and three CIS countries.
