Government to offer 228 doctoral grants

The government will offer 228 grants for Moldovan citizens pursuing doctoral studies in the 2024-2025 academic year. The provision is contained in the Enrollment Plan that has been put up for public consultation by the Ministry of Education. According to the document, a doctoral grant includes the individual scholarship and costs for the advanced studies program and for the research or artistic creation program.

Most grants, 73, will be offered in social and economic sciences, and 70 in medicine. Other grants will be for humanities (38), natural sciences (29), engineering and technologies (11) and agricultural sciences (7). Four doctoral grants are reserved for foreign citizens.

The average annual costs for a doctoral student at the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy are 32,999 lei, and 30,585 lei at the Academy of Music, Theater and Fine Arts. For a doctoral student at the Police Academy the costs rise to 38,000 lei.

309 scientific projects were submitted to the national competition of scientific projects for the distribution of doctoral grants from the 2024-2025 state budget, an increase compared to previous years. At the same time, in recent years there has been a tendency for a lower number of students enrolled in higher doctoral studies with funding from the state budget. In the academic year 2023-2024, 207 students were enrolled, in a decrease compared to the previous year, when 236 doctoral students were enrolled.
