Government will sign Memorandum with World Food Program

The Republic of Moldova intends to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the World Food Program (WFP) that will create the framework needed to support the Ukrainian refugees after the state of emergency is lifted. Currently, the Program provides humanitarian assistance to the Republic of Moldova based on the Commission for Exceptional Situations’ ordinance of March 25, IPN reports.

The Memorandum envisions the importation and supply of food products for the refugees and host communities. The beneficiaries will also get financial support. At the same time, the WFT will coordinate the logistical aspects for storing and transporting humanitarian aid to mayor’s offices, placement centers and emergency shelters, as the Parliament’s press service has said.

The Parliament’s commission on foreign policy and European integration on Wednesday approved the initiation of negotiations and the signing of the Memorandum. After it is signed, the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the World Food Program is to be ratified by the legislative body.
