Building within green spaces in both urban and rural areas could be banned under a proposed amendment approved by the Government on Wednesday.

The proposed ban excludes playgrounds, sports and fitness grounds, cultural and artistic installations as well as mobile commercial units. Permits for such small constructions will be issued by the local authorities.

Also under the proposed amendment, the sanctioning of unauthorized constructions or installations in green spaces will be the responsibility of both the Environment Inspectorate and the local authorities.

The approved measures are to be considered in Parliament.
