The Government has formally approved a social security agreement signed with Italy in June 2021 and a similar one signed with Greece in September prior to their ratification by the Moldovan Parliament.
“These two documents establish a framework of social security guarantees for migrant workers from the Republic of Moldova who work or worked in the past in the Italian Republic or Greece. The entitled persons will benefit from retirement pensions, disability pensions caused by general illnesses, pensions and disability benefits due to work accidents or caused by occupational diseases, and survivor’s pensions,” Marcel Spatari, Minister of Labor and Social Protection, told a press conference after the Government’s meeting.
Each contracting state shall pay the share of the pension calculated based on the period of insurance completed within its territory. The recipients will benefit in the state of domicile from the benefits acquired in the states where they worked.
To date, Moldova has signed social security agreements with 16 countries.
