Grants of over 2.3bn lei to be attracted this year

The Government is to receive grants of over 2.3 billion lei from the foreign development partners this year, an increase of 8.5% on last year. The figures are contained in the 2014 state budget, IPN reports.

The U.S. Government will be the main donor of Moldova. Over 1.1 billion lei of the grant approved in 2010 will be used to implement financial projects. This is 49.4% of the value of the projected foreign grants.

The European Commission will provide 943.7 million lei, which is 40.7% of the expected foreign grants.

The European Commission will be the only donor that will offer financing in the form of foreign grants for supporting the budget in 2014. The money will be used to reform the justice sector (224.8m lei), to stimulate economic development in rural areas (209.8m lei), and to support healthcare (105.8m lei). A sum of 105.8 million lei will go to implement the visa liberalization action plan.

The World Bank this year will allocate 76.8 million lei, which is 3% of the foreign grants.

The Government of Romani will contribute 58 million lei to building the Iasi – Ungheni gas pipeline.

Over 3 billion lei was planned in the state budget for implementing 45 projects with foreign financing. 56.4% of the costs will be covered with foreign grants, while 43.6% with loans.
