Prosecutors charged Grigore Caramalac with the orchestration of the attempted murder of the president of the Democratic Party Vlad Plahotniuc, IPN has learned from the Prosecutor’s Office for Crime and Special Cases.
Grigore Caramalac, who is known as a criminal authority, is investigated in a number of cases, being accused of serious and very serious crimes. Namely these criminal cases are among the reasons for which Caramalac ordered to eliminate the Democratic leader, whom he blames for the starting of these cases. This derives from the statements made by one of the main organizers of the failed assassination.
Among the persons arrested in this case are persons close to Caramalac, including a man who was arrested together with him in the 1990s.
It was established that he initially ordered to ‘warn’ the politician and then, after transferring a part of the money, insisted that the target should be eliminated even if more people would have been killed. The preliminary examination of the guns that were to be used in assassination and were seized by prosecutors and the confessions of detained persons show the number of victims would have been high.
Two floors of the office building where the target was would have been fully destroyed. Rocket launchers that can destroy whole buildings were also being looked for.
The final sum that was to be paid to all the involved persons was estimated at over US$ 1 million. The amount of US$ 200,000, US$100,000 of which was transmitted, was intended for preparing the operation.
