Gun holders are inspected once in six months

The National Public Security Inspectorate is the authority that controls and supervises the keeping, bearing and use of arms and munitions. The planned inspections to see how the private individuals and legal entities obey the regime of arms and munitions are performed once in six calendar months and involve representatives of regulatory and control bodies, the National Public Security Inspectorate stated in a response for IPN.

According to the institution, unplanned inspections are also carried out, but only based on a written application from regulatory and control bodies concerning the violation committed by the person who is subject to such inspections.

The mental capacities of the applicant to keep gun are examined by a special commission that consists of three members – two psychiatrists and a psychologist. The commission is named for a three-year term by an internal order of the institution.

Police statistics show that over 65,800 private individuals, 461 of whom are gun collectors, possess over 78,000 guns. Also, there are 237 authorization system objectives possessing 4,365 guns.
