President Nicolae Timofti will resume the consultations for designating a candidate for the post of Prime Minister with the parliamentary groups this week. The information was confirmed for IPN by the President’s spokesman Vlad Turcanu.
The head of state is to hold consultations with the factions of the PLDM, PCRM, PDM and PL. On January 13, Nicolae Timofti met with the parliamentary group of the PSRM, which is the largest in Parliament. The Socialists said they will not change their political position and will not take part in the creation of a government coalition with the parties that do not accept their conditions.
After the candidate for the post of Prime Minister is designated by the head of state, within 15 days he/she asks for the Parliament’s vote of confidence for the government program and the nominal composition of the Cabinet. Based on the vote of confidence given by Parliament, the President names the Cabinet. Within three days of the appointment of the Cabinet, the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Ministers, ministers and the other members of the Government individually take an oath of allegiance before the head of state.
Last week, when the PLDM and PDM formed the government coalition, the Liberal-Democratic leader
Vlad Filat told the journalists that the Government will be elected during at most two weeks and that their faction will field Iurie Leanca for premiership.
