Health Ministry: There is no flu epidemic in Moldova

In Moldova, there is no flu epidemic, Minister of Health Vladimir Hotineanu reiterated at a news conference on November 5, adding that the situation in Moldova is better than in the neighboring countries, Info-Prim Neo reports. An epidemic is when there are 750 cases of infection per 100,000 people during three weeks in a row. In Moldova, the number of infections is much lower. Sixty-five A (N1N1) influenza cases have been confirmed in Moldova so far. A patient from Ciadar-Lunga, who has recently returned from Moscow, was provided medical assistance through the agency of the sanitary aviation on November 5. Supposedly, the man got infected with pandemic flu, but this fact has not been yet confirmed. According to Vladimir Hotineanu, 200,000-300,000 vaccines against pandemic flu will come to Moldova in the middle of December. Negotiations are carried out with specialized Romanian institutions, which could send 20,000 vaccines to Moldova earlier. They will be used to immunize the most vulnerable groups of people, including the doctors, pregnant women, children younger than six months. Epidemiologist Viorel Prisacaru said that the people must have an appropriate behavior and observe the hygiene rules so as not to complicate the situation until the vaccination becomes possible. Boris Golovin, the director of the Medication Agency, said that the panic over the lack of protection masks and anti-flu drugs in drugstores is groundless as there are enough medications. A part of them were sent to relatives and friends in Ukraine, but the stocks will be refilled. A large batch of masks will be brought into Moldova soon. Some people bought the masks for 0.60 lei or 1.05 lei and speculate in them, selling them for 5-7 lei.
