Hearing at SCJ to examine appeal of Ilan Shor’s lawyers put off

The June 18 hearing at the Supreme Court of Justice, where the judges were to rule on the admissibility of the appeal in the case of the conviction of fugitive politician Ilan Shor, was postponed, IPN reports.

On the Court’s website, it is noted that the hearing was put off because one of the judges from the panel, Boris Talpă, tendered his resignation.

The examination of the appeal began back in November 2023 and the hearings since then have been put off for several times.

In June 2017, Ilan Shor was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for causing damage to the state through deception and breach of trust. By the Chisinau Court of Appeals’ decision of April 13, 2023, Ilan Shor was definitively sentenced to 15 years in prison. The Court of Appeals banned him from holding positions in the banking sector for a five-year period and ordered him to pay 5.2 billion lei damages. The politician left the country before the sentence was pronounced and the extradition requests have so far remained unanswered.
