The Buiucani local office of the Court of Chisinau on August 4 postponed again the hearing where the sentence for ex-minister of transport Iurie Chirinciuc, who is accused of influence peddling and abuse of power, was to be passed.
The hearing was put off for the reason that the judge is in the hospital, chief of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office Viorel Morari has told IPN. When the judge returns, a new date for the hearing will be set.
Iurie Chirinciuc was placed under judicial control after he had been in remand detention for almost two months. At the end of June, the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office said the case against the ex-minister was sent to court.
The prosecutors said that Iurie Chirinciuc, together with the heads of two building companies, employed a scheme to illegally gain money. These exerted pressure on the company that won the tender contest financed by the European Investment Bank to make this concede a part of the workload to affiliated business entities.
