High speed Internet gets more popular in villages
The number of Internet users in villages increased by 55.9% since 2011 and reached 113,200. The number of users in cities grew with 21.9% up to 238,700, according to data from the National Regulatory Agency in Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI), Info-Prim Neo reports.
A press release of agency informs that 19 districts registered a growth of over 1000 users, while 8 districts and Gagauzia saw an increase of over 2000. The biggest growths, between 2300 and 2800, were registered in Anenii Noi, Cahul, Soroca, Straseni, Ungheni and UTA Gagauzia. The least new users, between 230 and 930, were in Basarabeasca, Donduseni, Soldanesti and Taraclia.
As of December 2011, over 88% of users in districts and UTA Gagauzia have ADSL connections and 12% use FTTx, broadband connections through optic fiber. Moldtelecom is the provider for 97.6% of users, while 2.4% of them are subscribed to alternative providers.
Agency specialists attribute the growth in the development of Internet-access services in districts to the rising demand for such services, the expansion of optic fiber networks by Moldtelecom and alternative providers, the launching of new offers with two or three services included in one package.
