Historians association sues Ministry of Education

The Ministry of Education and particularly Minister Mihail Sleahtitchi was sued by the Association of historians and political analysts Pro-Moldova. The members of the association claim that teaching the history of Romanians in schools is against the state and xenophobic, Info-Prim Neo reports. Sergiu Nazaria, the association’s executive director, declared on Monday at a press conference that this action wasn’t directed against the history of Romanians, but was meant to offer the future generation the possibility to choose, as it should be in a true democracy, including the EU. Sergiu Nazaria proposes two books to be edited: one about the history of Romanians and one about the history of Moldova as an independent state. He also noted that most countries study the history of states, not of nations, so that there are no school objects as the history of the Chinese, of the Russians, of the Ukrainians, etc. Lawyer Roman Aronov said that the Minister Mihail Sleahtitchi violated several laws when he signed the decree for the history of Romanians to be studied in schools. Moreover, the Ministry of Education didn’t organize public debates with the civil society on this decision. Minister Sleahtitchi told Info-Prim neo that in a normal democracy, one is free to go to court whenever one disagrees with the Minister’s decision. If their action is admitted, the Ministry will present arguments in its defense.
