Housing privatization deadline to be extended until end of 2025

The deadline for the privatization of housing that can be privatized, which expires on May 31, 2024, is proposed to be extended until December 2025. Such a provision is stipulated in a draft law that was approved by the parliamentary commission for economy, budget and finance, IPN reports.

At Wednesday’s meeting of the commission, a legislative initiative of MPs of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists, which proposes extending this deadline until May 31, 2026, was presented. MP Inga Sibova said the bill was drafted following multiple requests from citizens who failed to privatize their homes.

The draft law was approved with the proposal to be merged with the legislative initiative of the MP of the Party of Action and Solidarity Vasile Grădinaru, which proposes extending the privatization deadline until December 2025. Vasile Grădinaru argued that there are disputes that are to be examined by courts and there are yet about 9,000 dwellings that can be privatized, most of them in Chisinau.

The legislative initiative is to be submitted to Parliament for examination.
