The hunters and fishermen will submit proposals for toughening up the punishments for poaching to the competent authorities. The proposals were discussed in the National Congress of the Hunters and Fishermen’s Society of Moldova on April 24, IPN reports.
The Society’s members suggest that a fine of 5,000 lei should be imposed for illegally hunting hares, up from the current fine of 1,000 lei. The fine for illegally hunting pheasants should be doubled to 2,000 lei, that for deer should be increased from 4,000 to 20,000 lei, while for boars – from 4,000 to 30,000 lei.
Head of the Hunters and Fishermen’s Society of Moldova Oleg Ciocoi said that nature can be protected only by raising the fines. Over the last five years, there had been drawn up 6,000 reports over poaching and confiscated 600 guns.
The Society will propose creating a center for developing hunting, whose task will be to do scientific and practical research for breeding purebred animals.
