Iacob Gumenita released from house arrest
The former municipal police chief Iacob Gumenita was set free from house arrest on June 9. The president of the Buiucani Court Oleg Sternioala has told Info-Prim Neo that at the preliminary hearing on this case it was decided to replace the house arrest with ban on leaving the country.
The prosecutors asked extending the arrest warrant for another 90 days. The next hearing was scheduled for June 17.
Iacob Gumenita was arrested on April 15 this year, but was soon released from the remand center of the Anticorruption Center and put under house arrest as he was sick.. The former police chief is investigated for misuse of authority. In the pictures taken by the video cameras from the Government House, he is shown kicking peaceful protesters on the night of April 8, 2009.
