A man aged 60 paid with life for the passion for ice fishing. The incident happened on the Ghidighici lake, where the victim was fishing together with a friend of his, who managed to escape death.
Press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service Liliana Puscasu has told IPN that most probably the ice yielded under the weight of the two men. One of them managed to scramble out, while his friend died. The body was taken out by frogmen.
This is the first case of the kid so far this winter. The people, especially the amateurs of ice fishing, are warned about the dangers faced when they are on thin ice on ponds, lakes and rivers. Liliana Puscasu said the thickness of the ice should be of at least 8-10 cm for safe walking. When there is a group of people, the ice should be at least 15-16 cm thick. This is formed when temperatures oscillate between -8...-10 degrees Celsius during several consecutive days.
According to the State Hydrometeorological Service, the ice on the rivers and lakes of the country during the next few days will be fragile and walking and staying on it will be dangerous.
