Representatives of the Moldova Project Development and Expertise Institute (IDEP) ask for a meeting with officials of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development and other bodies so as to discuss the project of the Ungheni-Chisinau-Odessa highway. They want to be included in the working group so as to contribute to the acceleration of the project.
In a news conference at IPN, Iurie Calestru, IDEP programs director, said that back in 2018, there was developed the conception “Europe in the home, locality and small business of the citizen (ECIPES), combined with the predominantly European sale (RM-EU highway) and recreational (#DiscoverEU Iasi-Chisinau-Odessa) market”. Since then, multiple events have been staged, including debates with persons and key institutions of Chisinau, Odessa, Iasi, Bucharest, Kiev, Strasbourg, Brussels, about which the public was constantly informed. Also, meetings with persons of key institutions were held about the la Ungheni – Chisinau – Odessa highway: the European Commission, the European Parliament, the European Investment Bank, the EU Delegation to Moldova and representatives of the Moldovan Government.
The IDEP experts asked and obtained letters of support from the Presidential Administration of Romania, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine and concluded a memorandum of cooperation with the heads of Călărași, Strășeni and Ungheni districts and with the municipalities of Romania that would be crossed by the highway. Discussions were held with international financial institutions and important factors of the EU, such as the European Commission and the European Parliament, so as to obtain support for the project.
“We will also make approaches to the European Union Delegation so as to agree meetings with the aim of having a cooperation framework to ensure positive and professional dynamics for the project regardless of conjuncture. This is in the interests of all the sides, from Chisinau, Kiev, Bucharest, and of the whole Community bloc, which is the European Union. We consider the cooperation with civil society and with an association of professionals – allow us to call ourselves this way – will become an important trump card for all the involved sides, proving the transparent character,” stated Iurie Calestru.
According to him, the project of the Târgu-Mureș-Iasi-Ungheni highway, called the Union Highway, can be hurried by the action of the Government of the Republic of Moldova. The Ungheni-Chisinau-Odessa highway corridor will be a continuation of the highway to important road connections in the EU.
“We hope for authentic connectivity with the EU, which will definitely be an important advantage in the process of joining the European Union. We note that civil society should not find out information from the press, but should be part of this working group so as to ensure the principle of transparency,” said Iurie Calestru.
