Igor Dodon: Tragedy that struck U.S. 16 years ago is a painful page

“The tragedy that struck the United States 16 years ago is a said and painful page in the contemporary history. On September 11, 2001, we all realized a truth – terrorism should be combated today,” President Igor Dodon says in a message of commemoration and support addressed to the U.S. people, IPN reports.

President Dodon says mankind should not yield to hatred, which claims lives and mutilates destinies. During all these years, the Republic of Moldova has shown its solidarity with the people of the United States of America, being convinced that freedom is the most important human value and the harm caused to a nation can be alleviated only by mutual assurance and concrete actions against those who encroach upon these values.

“In this connection, in the name of the people of the Republic of Moldova and my personal name, I want to transmit a message of confidence and support to the American people. Wishing you health and success in your responsible work, I ask you, your excellence, to accept my high appreciation,” Igor Dodon says in the letter addressed to his American counterpart Donald Trupm.

On September 11, 2001, 19 militants associated with the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda hijacked four airplanes and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. Two of the planes were flown into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, a third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. There were no survivors among the passengers and crews of the flights. Almost 3,000 people were killed during the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The dead included citizens of 90 states.
