Igor Turcanu’s assassination to be investigated by prosecution group

Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubco ordered creating a prosecution body that will deal with the legal case opened over the intentional murder of the president of the Moldovan Football Federation Igor Turcanu. The decision was taken after a meeting focusing on the latest developments in the case of the June 7 car explosion, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office, a plan of action was drawn up to examine several possible versions. Igor Turcanu, who headed the staff of the election campaign of candidate Mihai Godea, died in the hospital several hours after he was seriously injured in a car explosion on Columna St in Chisinau. The car had a Russian license number. In a news conference on June 7, Mihai Godea said he was sure that it was a car trap attempt. He said that Igor Turcanu, as other colleagues of his from the electoral staff, felt they were being followed. The same day the police told a press briefing that they are to determine if Igor Turcanu was the victim of an attempt or an accidental victim. Igor Turcanu was taken to the hospital with associated trauma, open fracture of the legs, and multiple bodily injuries. Mihai Godea said the doctors told him they took a lot of pieces of metal out of Turcanu’s body, which came from the exploded car. Thus, he consuders it was rather a planned attempt than an accidental explosion.
