The judges of the Buiucani Court of Chisinau rejected the lawyers’ request to free Ilan Shor, who is accused of swindle and money laundering in a case concerning the robbing of Banca de Economii (Savings Bank), from house arrest, IPN reports.
The next hearing was set for October 19. The judge said there were agreed the list of witnesses for the defense and the prosecution. After the hearing, Ilan Shor told the journalists that people who know the truth will be summoned to court.
The businessman’s wife, Russian singer Jasmin, who came to court to support her husband, after the decision was announced said that the Moldovan justice showed once again its real face. “This is so illegal, unfair and dishonest that I have no other words,” she stated, referring to the fact that Ilan Shor will not be freed from house arrest. The singer considers the case started against her husband is a political game that will end soon.
The lawyers for the politician and mayor of Orhei Ilan Shor said the court’s decision represents a serious violation of their client’s electoral rights and defiance of the case law of the European Court of Human Rights. Ilan Shor meets all the conditions for being named the trustworthy person of candidate for President Inna Popenko, who represents the Shor Party, but he cannot fulfill his duties until he is under house arrest. This fact puts Inna Popenko in unequal conditions compared with the other candidates.
