The placing of Ilan Shor under house arrest represents a well-planned show, said experts invited to the talk show “Politics” on TV7 channel, IPN reports.

Head of the Center of Initiatives and Public Authorities Monitoring Ion Dron considers the placing of Shor under house arrest is a bad show. “In rare cases the suspects are taken to court directly from the office of the prosecution officer or prosecutor. These are usually placed under arrest for 72 hours and are then taken to court. Shor was in detention for no second. While under house arrest, he will be able to influence the investigation. It’s clear that the National Anticorruption Center acts based on political orders,” he said.

Executive director of the Institute of Public Policy Arcadie Barbarosie said Shor’s behavior raises questions. “After he was accused of stealing US$1 billion, Ilan Shor behaved very tranquilly. What someone else would have done in his place? They would have left and hidden, with money for the rest of their life. Shor stays calmly in the country, knowing that he can be arrested. I think either the theft didn’t exist, as everything was done legally, or he knows something, has some arguments,” he stated.

Head of the public association “Justice and Uprightness” Pavel Midrigan believes the placing of Shor under house arrest is a momentary measure aimed at calming things down. “From the news program about Shor’s arrest, I also found out that the police arrested several young men from Durlesti who are suspected of stealing car wheels. I think the measure against Shor was taken in order to calm things down following last Sunday’s large protest and before the Riga Summit to show the Europeans that the state institutions fight corruption,” stated the jurist.

Political commentator Dionisie Cenusa thinks it was a well-organized show. “Our politicians like shows. I consider things will change after the Riga Summit,” he said.
